The Department of Natural Resources keeps track of the ice out date each year, and then has record of the earliest, the latest and the median ice out date. Gunflint Lake has a median ice out date of May 6, the earliest ice out is March 23, 2012 and the latest ice out is June 3, 1936. If you notice ice out on a lake, you can become a Citizen Observer and report it to the MN DNR.
